Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur have been busy promoting their upcoming film Jersey, which was originally scheduled to release on April 14. Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, this will be his Hindi directorial debut and the remake of his original 2019 Telugu film of the same title. The film also stars Pankaj Kapur, Ronit Kamra, Geetika Mehandru, Rituraj Singh and Amir Hossain in supporting but pivotal roles.
Just a few days away from its release, the sports based drama film faces another roadblock. The makers made an announcement earlier today that the film now will only be hitting the theatres on April 22. Some say the delay was to avoid a clash with one of the most highly anticipated film of this year, KGF: Chapter 2 starring Kannada superstar Yash and Thalapathy Vijay's Beast, both of which are releasing on April 14.
The film's producer, Aman Gill, issues a statement on Monday saying, “As a team, we have put our blood sweat and tears into Jersey and would like our beloved film to reach all of you in the widest possible way. Jersey will now release on April 22". Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to announce the decision made by the producers stating, "#Xclusiv... BREAKING NEWS... #Jersey POSTPONED by one week... Will arrive in *cinemas* on 22 April 2022... The stakeholders arrived at the decision late last night."

But the latest buzz going around is that the film does not face a delay to avoid a box office clash but because the filmmakers have been accused of plagiarism. A writer named Rajneesh Jaiswal has filed a case against the makers, claiming that the film's story belongs to him. The matter is to be heard by Justice Chagla in Mumbai High Court.
Jersey is produced by film producers Dil Raju, S Naga Vamsi, and Aman Gill. It chronicles the story of a talented but failed cricketer, who decides to return to the field in his late 30s driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfill his son's wish for a jersey as a gift.
