Arun Vijay is in the prime form with the success of films like Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and Thadam. Despite getting mixed reviews, Arun Vijay’s performance and stylish makeover in Mafia: Chapter One received a positive reception from the critics and general audience. He has quite a few interesting projects in his line up and one among those is Boxer. This sports drama is directed by Vivek, who had earlier directed the Tamil web series, Karoline Kamakshi that starred Meena in the lead role. Produced by Mathiyalagan under the banner of Etcetra Entertainment, Boxer has music scored by D Imman, cinematography by Krishnan Vasant, stunt choreography by Peter Hein and Stunner Sam.

Irudhi Suttru and Oh My Kadavule fame Ritika Singh was signed as the female lead. The film was announced last year and Arun Vijay called it to be one of his ambitious projects and the first look poster took everyone by surprise as Arun Vijay’s physical transformation was ultimate and it garnered a huge attention among the fans on social media. The CCV actor had undergone rigorous training to get fit for the role. However, the film didn’t make much progress due to various reasons. It looks like things are finally coming together and we can expect the shooting to resume soon.

The latest official update is that the film will feature its producer Mathiyalagan as the antagonist. It is said that Mathiyalagan took online acting workshops and classes during this lockdown to train himself as an actor. Mathiyalagan’s physical transformation and makeover suits the film’s setting and the pictures are doing good rounds on social media. This news was announced by Mersal producer Hema Rukmani on her official Twitter page. According to reports, the makers had initially planned to rope in Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap to play the villain, but due to the delay in shooting plans, the role was taken up by Mathiyalagan.

Earlier this morning, Arun Vijay had shared an important statement regarding the film on his Twitter page. In the statement, the talented actor revealed that the movie requires a lot more time physically and mentally, to get prepared for the role and added that he is waiting for more clarity from the production house. Arun Vijay will be seen as a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) boxer in this film and reportedly, the stylish actor will sport three different looks. Check out the official announcement tweet below:
