''Vijay's Master should not release now'' | Director's breaking statement
Kothanda Ramaiah fondly known as Keyaar is a yesteryear Tamil film director who is still actively distributing films in Tamil Nadu under his banner KR Infotainment. He has held various leading positions in different film industry organizations and considered to be an influential person in Kollywood. Keyaar has now issued a statement regarding Vijay’s Master and how the government needs to help the film fraternity during this crisis.
Keyaar feels Master should not be the first film to release when the theatres reopen. “I heard theatre associations planning to release Master as the first film after lockdown and got shocked. A big film like Master is like a festival for theatres. People from all walks of life gather in large numbers, there will be a crowd in ticket counters, washroom and canteens, so the chances for Corona to spread increases. Vijay films will pull a lot of family audience and we cannot risk the lives of kids. Master’s overseas rights have been sold for over 30 crores and we cannot release the film unless the situation is safe even foreign countries.
Government of UAE has permitted to allow theatres to function with just 30 percent occupancy but when we open, our government must permit us to have 50 percent occupancy rate. Even a salon has rules now during the lockdown, theatres also should have rules and regulations similarly. Films that will release in less than 150 screens, only those should be released for 3 months and the Government has to forgo GST and Entertainment tax for the next three 3 months to recover the loss suffered by the theatre owners and producers.”
