Maanaadu producer Suresh Kamatchi's statement on actors entering politics
One of the biggest films in development, Maanaadu, starring Silambarasan TR had kicked off production earlier this year in February amidst tremendous hype and excitement. Being directed by blockbuster director Venkat Prabhu, it is the first time the two are collaborating for a full-length feature film after STR had appeared in a cameo in Goa in 2010. Touted to be a mass masala political entertainer, Maanaadu is being produced by Suresh Kamatchi's V House Production banner and will feature music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Production on the film had been progressing at a steady pace till March, with the team completing important portions, before the nationwide lockdown was announced thereby leading to an indefinite halt in the shoot.
Meanwhile, producer Suresh Kamatchi had last week announced that production on Maanaadu will resume once again in November after Simbu completes his upcoming quickie project with director Suseenthiran, which will see Nidhhi Agerwal as the female lead. Being produced by Balaji Kappa under the Madhav Media banner, STR will be wrapping up Suseenthiran's film in a single schedule, which will last about a month in Dindigul. Apart from Simbu, Maanaadu will include a multi-star cast featuring the likes of Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead, followed by SJ Suryah, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Manoj Bharathiraja, Udhaya, Aravind Akash, Daniel Annie Pope and veteran directors S A Chandrasekhar and Bharathiraja in major supporting roles.
Having said that, Suresh Kamatchi on Monday took to his Twitter page to share his views on actors entering politics and their contribution towards cinema on the whole. He tweeted, "They come to cinema to act. Cinema establishes a life for them. But, after a particular point in time, they venture out saying they are going to protect the people. First, do something good for the cinema industry which has given you a good life. If you are not able to do even this, what are you going to do for the people?" Check out his tweet below:

Suresh Kamatchi's statements have come at a time when many notable celebrities are now in politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections that are slated to be held next year. Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar too had earlier in the day officially submitted her resignation as Congress party spokesperson and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
