Coronavirus lockdown | Barber shops in Tamil Nadu except Chennai to reopen on May 24
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami issued an order on Saturday allowing barber shops and salons to reopen from May 24 in the state's Corporations, Municipalities and Panchayats; with an exception on those coming under the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) limits. This will be the first time barber shops and salons will be reopening for business after being ordered to shut down due to the nationwide lockdown since March 25 in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. Tamil Nadu government had earlier given authorization for barber shops and salons to reopen in rural areas from May 19 and the latest announcement from the Chief Minister's desk comes with a few mandatory conditions that need to be followed by the employees in the outlets.
Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami in his press release stated that barber shops and salons in the state's Corporations, Municipalities and Panchayats will be allowed to function only between 7AM and 7PM. All the shops in the regions are not permitted to use the air conditioner during business hours. The shops and salons in the containment zones are not permitted to function and carry out any business until notified. Employees living in containment zones/prohibited areas should not be given any assignment. Customers should be supplied with hand sanitisers and must always wear a mask. Social distancing between the barber shop employees and the customers should be strictly adhered to.
