Song Yoo-jung began her career in modeling and debted as an actor in MBC’s Golden Rainbow and subsequently landed a recurring role in MBC TV series Make A Wish. She appeared in 120 episodes playing the character Han Da-won between 2014 and 2015. Song had also recently appeared on the School 2017 series, which was broadcast on KBS2, including another show titled Dear My Name. There have been actors and female artists who have killed themselves due to depression and disillusionment as a result of the pressure in the industry.

There have been a number of young celebrity deaths in Korea over the years among whom include K-pop star Jonghyun (real name: Kim Jong-hyun), who died at the age of 27 as a result of suicide. Popular K-pop singer Sulli, a former member of the band f(x), was found dead at her home in 2019 and was 25. Goo Hara, who was formerly a member of the girl band Kara, was found dead at 28. In her suicide note, actress Jang Ja-yeon, who starred in the hit TV series Boys Over Flowers, wrote that she was forced into sexual acts to so-called sponsors who provide opportunities to aspiring talents in TV shows and films. The response to K-pop, including stars from film and TV industries, have gone on to attain worldwide popularity, but have also come under scrutiny, especially after reports were out stating that artistes are being made to go through rigorous training.
