OFFICIAL: Drishyam 2 Telugu remake announced - Drushyam 2 with Venkatesh | Jeethu Joseph
Social media has been ablaze as Malayalam cinema fans around the world are raving about Mohanlal's latest film, Drishyam 2, which premiered on Friday on Amazon Prime Video. Skipping its theatrical release, Mohanlal's Drishyam 2 had the National Award-winning actor joining hands once again with the team from 2013's Drishyam that includes its cast featuring Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil reprising their roles under Antony Perumbavoor's production banner Aashirvad Cinemas and acclaimed filmmaker Jeethu Joseph returning to direct.
As Drishyam 2 continues to be basking in critical glory, fans were in for a massive surprise on Saturday after it was announced that director Jeethu Joseph would be remaking the recently-premiered Malayalam film in Telugu with 'Victory' Venkatesh in the lead role. Titled Drushyam 2, Venkatesh will be reprising his role from Drushyam in 2014, which as well turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in the superstar's career. It has been revealed that Drushyam 2 will roll into production from March, with the entire cast from the original getting retained once again, with plans for the film to be a theatrical release and not like Drishyam 2, which had to come out on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
A photo of Venkatesh along with Jeethu Joseph has now dropped online signaling that Drushyam 2 is indeed a go. Sripriya, who directed Drushyam in 2014, will not be returning for the upcoming sequel, with Jeethu instead stepping in to lead the charge. Meena, Kruthika Jayakumar and Esther Anil will be reprising their roles for Drushyam 2 as Venkatesh’s family, with reports now stating the project is being planned to be wrapped up as early as possible with all the COVID-19 protocols in place. Venkatesh is currently on a break after he recently completed the shooting for his upcoming big film, Naarappa, an official remake of the Dhanush-starrer, Asuran, under Vetri Maaran's direction, which went on to become a raging box office success.
#Drushyam2 is official.
Telugu remake of #Drishyam2 to roll from March, the entire cast of the first part will be retained. Hope this one is made for the big screens and draws good attention! pic.twitter.com/iCc2it91Z3— Siddarth Srinivas (@sidhuwrites) February 20, 2021
The success of Drishyam 2 leading to the fast-tracking of Venkatesh's Drushyam 2 in Telugu next has left fans on social media speculating and debating on the possibility of other language remakes in the days ahead. Tamil cinema fans, especially since Mohanlal's Drishyam 2 went on floors last year, have been hoping for leading Tamil actor-politician Kamal Haasan to take the next step for a sequel to his 2015 box office blockbuster, Papanasam. It is to be noted that Drishyam had also been remade in languages like Hindi titled Drishyam, which had Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran in the lead roles, including Dharmayuddhaya in Sinhala, and Sheep Without a Shepherd in Chinese.
