Richard Rishi’s Draupathi has managed to create a controversy on social media ever since its trailer release. With a very good buzz among the mainstream general audience, Draupathi released yesterday (February 28) on a grand note and the theatre owners were quite happy with the opening of the film. The film earned positive reception from the general audience for its message, while the critics weren’t impressed with the film. Following that, the first day box office collections of the film have now been revealed and it is indeed huge.

According to reports online, Draupathi has made an approximate gross of 2.5 crores in Tamil Nadu and it has taken everyone by surprise. Collecting around 2.5 crores in Tamil Nadu on the first day is a no mean task and these figures are the reflection of the film’s buzz among the mainstream general audience. The film is said to have been made on a very low budget of somewhere close to 1 crore and it has already started to make profits. Theatre exhibitors and distributors have already entered the profit zone and they feel that the movie is already a blockbuster.

Well, it looks like the controversial content has helped the film gaining more buzz and visibility. The film talks about various topics including fake marriages, caste-based politics, inter-caste marriage issues, farmers issues, and so on. Directed by Mohan G, Draupathi features Tolet and Kumbalangi Nights fame Sheela Rajkumar as the female lead and Karunaas in an extended cameo. This socio-political film has music scored by Jibin, while Manoj Narayan and Devaraj have handled the cinematography and editing departments respectively.
