Coronavirus crisis | Migrant woman allegedly bites Maharashtra cop for being told to wear a mask
A rather unusual turn of events took place on Tuesday evening when a migrant woman allegedly attacked a police constable in the Palghar district of Maharashtra after he had told her to wear a mask. Reportedly, the woman had bit the arm of the police constable who had asked her to put on a face mask as a protective measure against the novel coronavirus, which has claimed more than 4,000 lives to date across India. The incident is said to have taken place when formalities for boarding a Shramik special train was being conducted and thousands of migrant labourers and their family members had gathered around and were waiting in separate queues while waiting for their turns.
It has been said that a woman police constable had noticed a woman in the crowd who was not wearing a mask, which has now been made mandatory by the government. The woman was then told to wear a mask and also maintain social distance, which immediately made her attack the constable and bite her arm. As of now, no arrest has been made, but a case has since been filed against the woman under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Disaster Management Act.
