Coronavirus positive woman gives birth to twin girls at Hyderabad hospital
A 20-year-old pregnant woman, who was identified to be positive for the novel coronavirus, has now given birth to twin girls at the Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. The health condition of the mother from Telangana's Medchal town and her daughters, weighing 2.5 and 2 kgs each, are said to be stable. The woman had undergone an emergency caesarean section surgery to deliver the babies. Post the delivery, samples of the newborns were collected to test for the virus with the results expected to be made known on Wednesday. Check out the picture of the newborns below:
This is the fifth occasion that a COVID-19 patient has delivered babies at the hospital and several women who tested positive for the infectious virus have given birth to healthy babies amid the lockdown imposed across the nation. Last month saw Delhi's All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) deliver the first baby born to a woman after testing positive for the coronavirus. The husband of the woman, also a resident doctor at the hospital, was found to be infected by the virus.
The first time a coronavirus positive woman had delivered a baby at the Gandhi Hospital was on May 8. It was only a few days back when a 28-year-old COVID-19 patient had given birth to two twin boys in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. Newborns and mothers are on such occasions admitted in different wards in hospitals to curb the transmission of the fatal virus. Newborns are tested several times before they are discharge from the hospital.
