Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus historical epic Ponniyin Selvan is an adaptation of the classic novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. After wanting to make this movie for long, director Mani Ratnam is finally realising his dream and the first schedule of this movie happened in Thailand and the unit canned some important scenes there. The unit returned to Chennai and took a long before beginning the second leg of shoot.  
 
The Ponniyin Selvan team had originally planned another lengthy schedule in an overseas location but since that might be delayed due to date issues, the unit has been canning few scenes in the outskirts of Pondicherry following which the Ponniyin Selvan team is looking at travelling to Sri Lanka for a lengthy schedule. Bejoy Nambiar, a renowned director who have made films like Solo and David has been assisting Mani Ratnam for Ponniyin Selvan, he has now shared an image from the shooting spot with a title saying Mani sir’s AD for life.  
 
Ponniyin Selvan has an ensemble cast including Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashwin Kakumanu and a whole host of other supporting stars. AR Rahman is scoring the music for Ponniyin Selvan, while Ravi Varman is handling the cinematography and Sreekar Prasad is taking care of the editing.
