Raksha Bandhan is an upcoming Hindi comedy drama directed by Aanand L. Rai of Tanu Weds Manu fame and produced by Zee Studios, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films. The story is written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon and is touted to revolve around the love, bonding, and attachment between a brother and his sister. Raksha Bandhan features Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, while the recurring cast includes Abhinay Raj Singh, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth who play Kumar's sisters. The film will release theatrically on 11 August 2022.
Akshay Kumar was last seen in Prithviraj starring opposite Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar. This will also mark the second collaboration between Akshay and Bhumi after having previously worked on 2017's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
Raksha Bandhan will be clashing with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor's highly anticipated film Laal Singh Chaddha which is also set to release on the very same day. Adapted from the Hollywood hit Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks, the film will see Aamir playing the titular character of a slow-witted person with a childlike optimism. The film, which also stars Mona Singh and Chaitanya Akkineni, has been shot at multiple locations across India. Aamir and Kareena will be reuniting on the big screen 13 years after the 2009 hit film 3 Idiots. It will be interesting to see which film will perform better at the box office and enjoy the Independence Day weekend.
