On May 6, Karthi took to his official Twitter page to mourn the demise of Panjavarnam Paatti who played an important role in the actor's debut film, Paruthiveeran. Panjavarnam Paatti played the character of Mangayee and her rooted, natural performance left a good impact among the viewers. Sharing a picture of her, Karthi wrote on his Twitter page, "பருத்திவீரனில் எனது அப்பத்தாவாக வாழ்ந்த பஞ்சவர்ணம் பாட்டி இறந்த செய்தி அறிந்தேன். அவரின் பாசமான குரலும், வெள்ளந்தி சிரிப்பும் இன்றும் என் கண் முன்னே நிற்கிறது. அவரின் குடும்பத்தாருக்கு எனது ஆழ்ந்த இரங்கலை தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறேன்.".

The tweet is loosely translated in English as, "Heard about the death of Panjavarnam Paatti who lived as my grandmother in Paruthiveeran. Her affectionate voice and innocent smile is still fresh in my eyes. My deepest condolences to her family members ". The tweet has gone viral and the fans are also expressing their condolences to Panjavarnam Paatti's family. Paruthiveeran marked the debut of Karthi as an actor and he could not have asked for a better debut. It gave him the right kind of start in Tamil cinema and there has been no look back since then. Paruthiveeran was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ameer and had music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The film featured Priyamani as the female lead, while Ponvannan, Saravanan, Sujatha Sivakumar, Ganja Karuppu played supporting roles. The film was a big blockbuster hit at the box office and it also earned the love of the Tamil audience. Paruthiveeran won Two National Film awards - for Best Actress (Priyamani), and Best Editor (Raja Mohammad).

Currently, Karthi is busy acting in his next film, Sardar, which is directed by PS Mithran of Irumbu Thirai and Hero fame. Sardar features Karnan fame Rajisha Vijayan and Raashi Khanna as the female leads, while Simran, Chunky Pandey play supporting roles. Sardar will feature Karthi in dual roles and it is going to be an interesting film to watch out for. Apart from Sardar, Karthi also plays one of the leads in Mani Ratnam's historical epic, Ponniyin Selvan.

Apart from Karthi, the film features Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the other leads. Produced by Lyca Productions, in association with Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan has music scored by A.R.Rahman.
