A film that has been carrying massive expectations right from the moment of its announcement, ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth’s DARBAR announced for a Pongal 2020 release recently wrapped its first schedule under A. R. Murugadoss’s direction at Mumbai and is set to roll into its second leg of production from May 29.
Being produced under the Lyca Productions banner, Darbar includes a powerhouse technical crew featuring names like Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music, Santhosh Sivan handling cinematography, editing being done by Sreekar Prasad, art direction by T. Santanam, stunt choreography by the Ram-Laxman duo, Vivek penning the lyrics and Niharikha Bhasin Khan taking care of the costume department.
Billed to be an action entertainer, it has now been confirmed that popular Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has now come on board Darbar as the prime antagonist and will reportedly be joining the film’s sets from the second schedule.
Having started off as a hero in Hindi films, Suniel Shetty went on to become one of the leading stars during the 1990s and cemented himself as a talent to reckon with among stars namely Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sai Ali Khan including Amitabh Bachchan.
It must be noted that Darbar will be Suniel Shetty’s second Tamil film after 19 years when he starred in the 2001 film, 12B, alongside Shaam, Jyothika and Simran while also delivering a thunderous performance as the villain in Shah Rukh Khan’s 2004 blockbuster, Main Hoon Na.
Darbar will be the first film for Rajinikanth to return to playing a cop after his 1992 film, Pandiyan, with the ongoing A. R. Murugadoss directorial including Nayanthara as the female lead followed by Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar also playing a negative character, Yogi Babu for the comedy among others in vital supporting roles.
