A film that created instant curiosity among fans right from the moment of its announcement, the sports drama, ‘83, is based on the Indian National cricket team's 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. A multi-starrer, the film stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the lead pair followed by Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jiiva, Ammy Virk, Harrdy Sandhu, Pankaj Tripathi, Sahil Khattar and Chirag Patil in supporting roles. The film has created quite a lot of excitement among fans in Tamil Nadu as well as Jiiva will be seen portraying swashbuckling former Indian opening batsman, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, with expectations for the actor to deliver yet another fun-filled memorable performance.

'83 has been generating massive interest among fans after it went on floors with the stills and promotional posters of the stars in the film bearing a striking resemblance to real-life cricketing superstars going on to receive a thumping response from fans. Ranveer Singh, who portrays former Indian Cricket Team's captain Kapil Dev, took to his Twitter page to announce that '83 will not be releasing on April 10 as planned earlier owing to the coronavirus outbreak across the world.

Ranveer Singh's statement on his Twitter page is as follows: "83 is not just our film but the entire nation’s film. But the health and safety of the nation always comes first. Stay safe, take care. We shall be back soon!". An additional statement from the entire '83 team as well has been released with the actor sharing it which reads, "In the wake of the risks posed by the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and the growing health concerns, the release of 83 has been put on hold. We will take a decision regarding the next course of action once the conditions return to normal. We urge our fans to take all the necessary precautions and take care of their loved ones. 83 is a film about fighting the odds and we hope we all will bounce back from this soon,". Directed by Kabir Khan and featuring music by Pritam, ‘83 has been produced jointly by Vibri Media, Reliance Entertainment, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and KA Productions banners with distribution being done by Reliance Entertainment and Jio Studios and, Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International distributing the film across Tamil Nadu.
