As we all know, due to the pandemic situation, a lot of producers and filmmakers decided to release their films directly on OTT streaming platforms since the reopening of theatres look uncertain. Jyotika’s Ponmagal Vandhal, Keerthy Suresh’s Penguin, Amitabh Bachchan - Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo, Jayasurya - Aditi Rao Hydari starrer Sufiyum Sujatayum are some of the films that released directly on Prime Video platform. Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi is in the pipeline and it is slated to release on July 31.

Recently, Disney + Hotstar platform announced the direct digital release of 7 mega biggies including Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz and Kunal Khemu’s Lootcase.

Following Prime Video and Hotstar, OTT giant Netflix has made a breaking announcement about the direct releases of their next 17 Indian projects. A few notable biggies will skip theatrical release and will be out on Netflix in the coming days. The list of 17 projects include films, web series, and television shows, etc. Abhishek Bachchan's Ludo, Sanjay Dutt's Torbaaz, and Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena are some of the notable biggies that will have a direct release on Netflix. However, the fans in South India have expressed their disappointment that there are no projects in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, or Malayalam. Netflix is indeed doing an anthology film in Tamil (Vetri Maaran - Gautham Menon - Sudha Kongara - Vignesh Shivan) and Telugu, but it looks like we will have to wait for a few more months for its announcement.
