Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary yesterday (August 25) and wishes poured in for the lovely couple from fans and celebrities across social media. Thalapathy Vijay married Sangeetha, his ardent fan, on August 25, 1999. Impressed by Vijay's performance in the 1996 film Poove Unakkaga, Sangeetha, a Sri Lankan Tamil based in the United Kingdom, visited him in Chennai on the sets of the film. After a few meets, love blossomed between them and they married. The couple is blessed with two children - Jason Sanjay, born in 2000, and Divya Shasha, born in 2005.
Thalapathy Vijay is one of the few stars to have a huge fan following across states and Vijay's every move is being celebrated by his fans and instantly becomes a trending topic on social media. On the occasion of Thalapathy's wedding anniversary, fans held various social welfare activities across the state. Members from Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, Pudhukottai, celebrated the special day by organising a free wedding ceremony for an underprivileged couple and helped them with the necessary arrangements as well. The marriage got the attention of everyone and was widely praised by many on social media.
On the other hand, a controversy was also raised on the same day following a poster featuring Vijay and Sangeetha. The controversial poster had Vijay's face morphed into former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor MG Ramachandran and Sangeetha's face was morphed onto former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. The poster also called Vijay as Puratchi Thalaivar and Sangeetha as Puratchi Thalaivi, which are the revered names for the two political leaders respectively. The poster was placed by 'Ghilli' Siva, Fans head of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, South Madhurai. The poster also features Bussy Anand who is the president of Vijay Fan Clubs.
Speaking about the controversial poster, 'Ghilli' Siva informed a popular media house that the official heads of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam asked him not to give any interviews regarding the controversy. He also added that Vijay was initially called as Ilayathalapathy and now he is being called Thalapathy, so he wanted Vijay to go to the next level and that was the motive behind the poster design. Reports also suggest that 'Ghilli' Siva has been warned by the higher leads of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam for making such a controversial poster with the star
