Bhaagamathie was a Telugu horror thriller that featured Anushka in the lead role. It was dubbed and released in Tamil with the same title. The film released amidst huge expectations among the fans and film buffs. However, it received mixed reviews from the critics and fans. However, it was a successful film at the box office and notably, it grossed over 1 million dollars at the US box office. Bhaagamathie was written and directed by Ashok and had music scored by S Thaman.
Bhaagamathie was Anushka's next outing after the blockbuster success of Baahubali 1 & 2 and hence the fans were so excited to see the film. Bhaagamathie revolved around the story of an IAS officer who gets possessed by a spirit when imprisoned in a haunted house for police interrogation.
Bhaagamathie has now been remade in Hindi and it is called Durgamati: The Myth. The young and talented Bhumi Pednekar who has films like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Lust Stories, Saand Ki Aankh, Bala, to her credit, plays the female lead in this remake. Director Ashok who helmed the original has directed the remake version, as well. Arshad Warsi has reprised the role played by Jayaram.
The makers have now released the trailer of the film which has garnered good attention among the fans and film buffs. Director Ashok seems to have made a scene-to-scene remake as we see a lot of similar shots that we saw in Bhaagamathie. The trailer looks quite good, but the fans are in opinion that the Bhumi could not reprise Anushka's magic. In a way, that looks true as we don't see enough power in the important transformation scenes. Let us hope that the film opens well among the fans. Durgamati: The Myth will have a direct digital OTT release on Amazon Prime Video platform and it has been scheduled to release on December 11.
The film is produced by Abundantia Entertainment Production, in association with Cape Of Good Films and T-Series. Apart from Bhumi Pednekar and Arshad Warsi, the film also stars Jisshu Sengupta, Mahie Gill and Karan Kapadia in supporting roles. Durgamati has songs composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Naman Adhikari, Abhinav Sharma and Malini Awasthi and background score by Jakes Bejoy. The Hindi dialogues have been penned by Ravinder Randhawa.
