Tamil Nadu government issued a news bulletin on Tuesday addressing the state's combat against the novel coronavirus, with the data released showing 5,928 fresh positive cases getting recorded on September 1, taking the total number of cases to 4,33,969. The total number of active coronavirus cases across the state including those in isolation as on today is 52,379.
Chennai recorded 1,084 new coronavirus positive cases taking the district's total to 1,36,697 cases. Over the past month or so, the city has witnessed the daily number of fresh cases staying in between the 1,000 and 1,300 mark, with today's numbers showing a considerable dip. With the state government issuing more relaxations as part of the Unlock phase, people have been reminded to follow the protocols to stay safe from the infection. At present, Chennai city alone has 13,107 active cases with people currently undergoing treatment under home quarantine, while Coimbatore and Salem are following suit with 3,904 and 3,529 active cases.
96 people died on Tuesday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 taking the state's death toll up to 7,418 casualties. The number of fatalities in the state for more than a month has been varying and registering between the 80-100 deaths and occasionally past the 100 mark. Meanwhile, the recovery count has been progressing steadily forward as the past 24 hours have once again seen a substantial development with 6,031 patients having been discharged taking the total to 3,74,172.
The total number of samples tested across in Tamil Nadu today are 75,165, while the overall count currently stands at 48,88,312. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 73,155 with the total in the state going up to 46,26,022. The state has been at the forefront compared to the other states and Union Territories in terms of the COVID-19 tests being carried out. For long, TN has been registering at the top for the highest number of tests being conducted across India.
