Tamil Nadu government on Monday issued a new media bulletin regarding the state's combat response against the COVID-19 outbreak. In the latest data released, 5,609 fresh positive cases were recorded on August 3 taking the total number of cases in the state to 2,63,222. The total number of active coronavirus cases across the state including those in isolation as on today is 56,698.
There were 1,021 new coronavirus positive cases reported in Chennai taking the district's total to 1,02,985 cases. Chennai has been showing a consistent decrease in the number of cases being reported despite being the worst-affected district in Tamil Nadu. At present, Chennai city alone has 11,983 active cases with people currently undergoing treatment under home quarantine, while Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram are following suit with 3,409 and 3,216 active cases.
109 people died on Monday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 taking the state's death toll up to 4,241 casualties. Today’s coronavirus death toll is the highest ever in a single day to date in the state as this is the first occasion the number of casualties has crossed the 100 mark. Meanwhile, the recoveries count keeps progressing forward at a steady pace as the past 24 hours have seen 5,800 patients getting discharged taking the total number of recoveries to 2,02,283.
The total number of samples tested across in Tamil Nadu today are 58,211, while the overall count currently stands at 28,37,273. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 56,278 with the total in the state going up to 27,33,295. It is to be noted that TN has been carrying the most number of tests per day right from the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) earlier in the day announcing that more than 2 crore tests had been carried out across the country as on Sunday.
