It is that time of the day when the official numbers of the COVID-19 cases are released and here we bring it for you along with a comprehensive round-up of all the details! The numbers have been slowly increasing and the death rate has crossed 100 consistently for the past week! The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 5994 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 296,901! Of these, 989 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 109,117! Kancheepuram has recorded 393 new cases and the district has now registered a total of 11807, while 2718 of them are currently active! Chengalpattu has recorded 17811 total cases of which 2728 are currently active and Madurai has recorded a total of 12005 cases with 1265 of them being currently active. Chengalpattu alone has recorded 397 new cases in the last 24 hours, while Kancheepuram registered 393 new cases and Theni has recorded 360 new cases!
There have been 119 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 4927. The number of deaths per day has now crossed 100 for the sixth consecutive day and today marks the joint highest number of single day deaths ever, so far! As of now, Chennai is the district with the most number of COVID cases recorded so far, in the state and has 109,117 cases registered. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 53,336 while the number of active cases in Chennai alone stands at 11,654! The number of recoveries has been very good over the last few days and again, today's recoveries are higher than the number of new infections! There have been 6020 new recoveries and discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered people to 238,638. There have been 70,186 new samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 3,225,805 tests, which continues to remain the highest for any state in our country!
