Kollywood is one of the biggest markets in Indian Cinema and contributes to a large part of the number of movies produced in India, every single year! However, unlike any other cinema industry in our country, most of the producers in Tamil Cinema, work on money borrowed from financiers, to make movies! The entire nation is gripped by the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus and with a 21-day lockdown period brought into effect by the Indian Government, shooting has been stalled and movie releases have been postponed with all theatres being shutdown. This has already begun affecting the daily wage workers in Cinema and various stars have been coming forward to make contributions for the relief efforts for these workers.

However, not many people are looking into the plight of the producers, who are also heavily affected by this lockdown! Producers who have obtained money from financiers to make movies would have already invested heavily in the projects and would have to pay the interest for their loans, irrespective of whether the shooting has been stalled or not. With the current scenario of the Virus intensifying, there are heavy possibilities for the lockdown to continue and it is not sure when shooting might resume. It is also known that the biggest chunk of a movie's budget goes towards the artistes' salaries and if they were to come forward and take pay cuts, it would be of massive help to the producers. Producer J Sathish Kumar (JSK) had recently come forward with a request, asking all top actors and leading technicians to take pay cuts for their ongoing projects as well as for those already committed, to help save Kollywood from facing certain doom. However, it remains to be seen if the stars would agree to this. Let's wait and watch...
