The controversial confrontation between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars has been the topic of discussion all around the world since the moment it happened. Caught in the vortex of all this is Jada Pinkett Smith, as the joke made at her expense was what triggered her husband. Though she didn't say anything during the controversial moment, she was very much at the centre of it. A lot of people have had their say on the comedian's joke as well as on the actor's decision to respond to it by slapping Rock right across the face on the stage with the whole world watching.
Jada has finally broken her silence on the matter and shared her thoughts with a short and crisp Instagram post. It was a rather mysterious and cryptic message as it was posted with no caption and just an image with some text which read, "This is a season for healing and I am here for it." This was the first public statement made by the actress since her husband slapped comedian Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. She did not mention Rock’s joke or the slapping incident specifically.
Her statement came right after her husband issued an apology of his own on Instagram. It was directed at Chris Rock saying, "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness." He also went on to apologize to the Academy and all those watching the ceremony all over the world for his action.
The whole thing took place after Chris Rock had joked about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head when he said, "Jada, I love you, can't wait for GI Jane 2." - referring to the movie GI Jane starring Demi Moore who had shaved her head for the film. Jada is diagnosed with alopecia, a disease that causes hair loss, and this instigated Will to get off his seat, walk over to Chris up on the stage and slap the sonic coins out of him.
