The upcoming Tamil action thriller FIR, written and directed by debutant Manu Anand, has been banned from release in three countries - Malaysia, Kuwait and Qatar. The film is set to release in theatres tomorrow, February 11, on a grand scale through the banner of Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. It stars Vishnu Vishal, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Manjima Mohan, Reba Monica John, Raiza Wilson in the lead roles with Gaurav Narayanan and Prashanth Rangaswamy playing important roles as well. The movie is produced by Shubhra and Aryan Ramesh under the banner of VV Studioz. Ashwath has been reeled in to compose the music for the movie, editing to be done by Prasanna GK while Arul Vincent acts as the cinematographer.
FIR follows Irfan, an innocent man with an ordinary life, who is portrayed as the evil incarnated by the NIA. He is deemed a terrorist and is on the run from the police behind him in order to prove his innocence. The film has not cleared the local censors in the respective countries and it is no surprise. The film is said to have missed the release in the said countries because of its core premise that deals with the problems faced by the Muslim community. This exaggeration of a false stereotype serves as one of the reasons for its ban. Considering that the film could hurt their religious sentiments, the ban has been imposed in the three countries. The plot of the movie focuses on how everyone blames one community of people when something horrific acts and something as terrible as terrorism comes along.
However, the film is clear to go in India with an U/A certificate from the CBFC. Vishnu Vishal, who is known for his wise selection of scripts seem to have picked an interesting film with FIR and let us wait and witness how the Tamil audience react to the movie.
