Leading Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda's Kushi is gearing up for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 1 and the excitement is high in the air as the romantic comedy film has been the talk of the town over the past few days. The upcoming film, which also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the female lead, is carrying massive buzz, with the stars going full-out with the promotions. In that light, Vijay Deverakonda promoted Kushi in Coimbatore on Monday, August 21, where he was queried about the film's title being borrowed from 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Kushi (2000) and whether both ventures have any similarity in the story front.
Speaking to media persons, Vijay Deverakonda said, "I know that Kushi, Vijay sir's Kushi, which was remade here in Telugu also with Pawan Kalyan sir, by the same S. J. Suryah... It was a huge blockbuster in Tamil and in Telugu. I was in school when those movies came out and the songs from those movies are some of my favorites." He added, "There is no similarity in the story, but we just felt like this title was very apt for the film, and hopefully, all the fans of Vijay sir's Kushi will also be happy. I'm sure they'll also smile and enjoy Vijay Deverakonda's Kushi also. So, I'm really happy I got to do a film, which also shares the title with an actor that I like."
Although both films share the same title, the differences in the story were noticed after the trailer for Vijay Deverakonda's Kushi released recently showed that it centered around the ups and downs in a marriage, while Vijay's Kushi, which also starred Jyotika, revolved around the relationship between two college friends. Vijay Deverakonda's Kushi is directed by Shiva Nirvana of Ninnu Kori (2017), Majili (2019), and Tuck Jagadish (2021) fame under Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar's Mythri Movie Makers banner and features music composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who impressed everyone in his debut, Hridayam, in Malayalam.
