Blockbuster Tamil film director Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara tied the knot in 2022 in a grand wedding ceremony in Chennai and have since been blessed with twin baby boys via surrogacy. Recently, Vignesh Shivan took part in a candid interview with National Award-winning Tamil actress Suhasini as part of Galatta Media's latest series, 'Game Changers', where he opened up on when his professional relationship became personal with Nayanthara.
Explaining about when their professional relationship transitioned to a personal relationship, Vignesh Shivan said, "This was during the middle of the making of the film. After the first schedule had gotten over, we started dating during the second schedule. I used to call her ma'am. Even after we got into a relationship, I used to address her as ma'am on the sets. At that time, I was particular about one thing - the film shouldn't become complacent. What happens is, sometimes, the male-female relationship isn't an ordinary thing. It will change our mindset in different ways. While we're making a sequence and when she was a heroine till yesterday and today she's my girlfriend, the male mentality will change a lot. We'll become bias in a lot of things, but I never see it like that."
Talking about a scene in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan where Vijay Sethupathi comes close to kiss Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan opens up on directing the sequence, while explaining how it is important to understand to keep their work and personal lives separate. He said, "There's a scene in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan where their lips come close. This scene was being shot during the beginning phase of our relationship. So, easily possessiveness can creep in. If I had been possessive at that time, the distance between the two faces would have been different. She's also highly professional and I'm also professional. So, I was the person who will say, 'come closer'. So, she'd also do the scene. I was very very particular that we must do the work correctly irrespective of what exists in our personal lives."
