'Superstar' Rajinikanth left for Hyderabad, Telangana, on Saturday morning, March 9, to resume filming on Vettaiyan. The action drama film being directed by T. J. Gnanavel of Jai Bhim (2018) fame will see the actor playing a police officer once again after he donned the khakhi last time in Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer (2023). With Rajinikanth set to come out firing on all cylinders in Vettaiyan after the gargantuan success of his Jailer (2023), the leading Tamil actor addressed the media at the Chennai Airport earlier today while en route to Hyderabad and spoke about the shooting of his upcoming film, while also sharing a few words about the tentatively titled Thalaivar 171 to be directed by blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.
During his interaction with the press, Rajinikanth was queried about Vettaiyan, with the actor stating, "The shooting is progressing nicely and 75% of filming has been completed." Upon being asked about the film's release date, the actor informed, "The announcement will be made once the production comes to a wrap." In regard to his Thalaivar 171, Rajinikanth said that the works have not yet started. There are massive expectations surrounding Vettaiyan and Thalaivar 171, and fans will be looking forward to witnessing Rajinikanth delivering action-packed entertainment in both the films on the big screen.
Vettaiyan will see Rajinikanth sharing the screen alongside a huge ensemble star cast featuring the likes of iconic Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, Malayalam stars Fahadh Faasil and Manju Warrier, Baahubali fame Rana Daggubati, Irudhi Suttru actress Ritika Singh, Sarpatta Parambarai heroine Dushara Vijayan, among others, with the music being composed by 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander. Thalaivar 171, on the other hand, will begin principal photography after Rajinikanth completes his commitments with Vettaiyan, and is the first-time collaboration for Rajinikanth with Lokesh Kanagaraj, while the songs and the background score will be done by Anirudh.
