Popular director Babu Sivan passed away during the late hours of September 16 at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai. Babu Sivan is survived by his wife and two daughters. His unexpected demise has taken the entire film fraternity by deep shock and the fans have also been taken aback. It is said that Babu Sivan died due to kidney and liver failure issues. As per the reports, it is said that the director's wife had taken her two daughters for the NEET exam on Sunday and that is when he fell unconscious at his house. When the family came back to see him in that condition, they immediately rushed him to the hospital.
Due to financial constraints, he was admitted to the Government hospital where he was declared dead on September 16. He was reportedly tested negative for COVID 19. Babu Sivan was 54 years old when he breathed his last. Details regarding the cremation is yet to be known.
Babu Sivan is widely known for directing Thalapathy Vijay in Vettaikaran which is a special film for the fans. Vettaikaran was an entertaining commercial action drama that satisfied the mainstream audience and was a success at the box office. Even a few weeks back when it was aired on Sun TV, the entire social media was abuzz about it. Babu Sivan had created celebratory mass scenes and powerful punch dialogues that would be enjoyed by the fans. He started out his career as an assistant to director Dharani and worked in films like Ghilli, Dhool, etc. Babu Sivan was also the dialogue writer of Vijay’s Kuruvi. He had last directed a handful of episodes of the Tamil serial, Raasathi (Sun TV), that starred Devayani in the lead role.

Director Thiru who has made films like Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai, Samar and Naan Sigappu Manithan wrote on his Twitter page, "Sad to hear about the demise of a very good friend Babusivan, Dir of Vettaikaran..RIP.". Director John Mahendran of Sachein fame tweeted, "வேட்டைக்காரன் இயக்குனர் பாபு சிவனின் மறைவிற்கு ஆழ்ந்த இரங்கல்கள்...".
