National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran, who is currently busy working on getting Viduthalai: Part 2 ready for its release, addressed the press on Monday, June 26, during a special event held to distribute health insurance cards to members of the Tamil Nadu Movie Journalists Association in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. During his interaction with media persons, the acclaimed director was posed with several queries about his upcoming films, including his planned project with 'Thalapathy' Vijay. Addressing a journalist's question about how Vijay spoke a famous dialogue from Vetri Maaran's Asuran (2019) at a recent event he organized to honor Class 10 and Class 12 toppers across Tamil Nadu, the filmmaker said, "We have been discussing doing a film for a long time. Vijay sir is ready. Once I finish the commitments I have in my hand, I will do a narration for him. At the time, if the stories I narrate work out for him, we will definitely do a film."
Vetri Maaran and Vijay coming together for a film has been in the air for a long time and fans on social media have been expressing a lot of interest for the duo to join hands. At present, the Visaranai director has several promising projects in his lineup starting with Viduthalai 2, which is expected to come out either toward the end of the year or in early 2024. He is also busy with the pre-production works for the highly-anticipated Vaadivaasal starring Suriya being produced under Kalaippuli S. Thanu's V Creations banner. The blockbuster filmmaker also plans to make the much-talked-about Vada Chennai 2, the sequel to the 2018 Dhanush-starrer Vada Chennai (2018), with the two-time National Award-winning actor also expressing his interest to collaborate again.
Apart from his upcoming directorial ventures, Vetri Maaran is also attached to a number of projects in different roles starting with the Raghava Lawrence-starrer Adhigaaram, which has him penning the screenplay, with Ethir Neechal and Pattas fame RS Durai Senthilkumar onboard as the director. He has also co-written the screenplay along with Thangam for filmmaker Ameer's Iraivan Miga Periyavan. Vetri Maaran is producing under his Grassroot Film Company banner the Andrea Jeremiah-starrer Manushi being directed by Aramm fame Gopi Nainar. He has also written the screenplay for the upcoming ZEE5 web series Nilamellam Ratham, which stars Ameer and will be directed by Ramesh Balakrishna. Vijay, on the other hand, is currently working on Leo with Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is their second film together after their Master (2021) and is set to open in theatres on October 19. The Tamil superstar will next be joining hands with director Venkat Prabhu for the tentatively titled Thalapathy 68, which is scheduled to come out in 2024.
