After nearly four decades, Tom Cruise will be returning as the famous Lieutenant Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the highly anticipated sequel to late director Tony Scott's 1986 smash hit action drama Top Gun. The upcoming sequel will be titled Top Gun: Maverick. The original film is widely remembered for its amazing action sequences, the effects, the aerial stunts, and the acting performances put forth by its actors out of which Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis.
A new trailer for its highly anticipated movie was unveiled on recently and it shows it features Tom Cruise reprising his iconic role who is not just a young naval aviator anymore but a high-flying test pilot and instructor. The trailer seems to promise and deliver all the elements -- thrill, drama and action to keep the moviegoers glued to the screens. The trailer features new fighter jets keeping up with the new technology of today rather than those of the '80s. Innovation in this regard will be well noticeable and help us realize how far we have come in terms of development. The trailer also presents incredible air-combat sequences that might have never been seen on the screen before all done by the daredevil, Tom Cruise, himself.
Following the demise of Tony Scott in 2012, the sequel will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film also stars Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin and Monica Barbaro. The film's release date was pushed back several times due to the coronavirus pandemic but now it is scheduled for a theatrical release on 27 May 2022 right after its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in 18 May 2022. After 45 days of its theatrical debut, the film will later be streamed and made available to watch on Paramount+.
