The Kerala Story is a Hindi language film that sparked controversy ahead of its release. The film is directed by Sudipto Sen who previously made the film Aasma, The Last Monk, Lucknow Times, etc. The film has Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balami and Siddhi Idanani in the lead role. The trailer of the film sparked controversy as it said it's based on true incidents where three girls are lured and converted into Islam and are recruited by the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS). The film was released in theatres across India on May 5. Now, the governor of Tamil Nadu R.N. Ravi has shared his thoughts about the film through the official Twitter handle of Raj Bhavan. In the tweet penned in Tamil, he said he saw the film The Kerala Story, "The film brings to light the subtle yet cruel reality, Thanks: Governor Ravi".
The Supreme Court recently ordered the Tamil Nadu government to provide security in the theatres to screen the film, The Kerala Story when they heard a case alleging Tamil Nadu and West Bengal banned the film. Tamil Nadu Government stated they didn't ban the release of the film but due to low occupancy, the theatres have stopped screening it. The film was released in four languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and despite the controversy, it has collected over Rs.200 crores at the box office across India.
The film directed by Sudipto Sen was procured by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under the banner Sunshine Pictures which produced some hit films including Cammando 1, 2, and 3, Sanak, A.R. Murugadoss’s Holiday, etc. The producer is also the creative director of the film and it has music composed by Viresh Sreevalsa and Bishakh Jyothi.
