There's no stopping the excitement surrounding the highly-anticipated 'Thalapathy' Vijay-starrer Leo and the latest record set by the upcoming film in the United Kingdom (UK) is yet another big testimony. Directed by blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring music composed by 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander, the film touted to be a mass gangster action drama has now shattered the day 1 record for Tamil films in advance ticket sales in the UK nineteen days before its grand theatrical release. Vijay's Leo has taken the crown by setting a new benchmark overseas and going past the record so far held by Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 1 (2022) in the UK with more than 32,500 tickets being sold already for day one.
This latest achievement by Leo is also an indicator that the much-awaited Vijay-starrer will next be looking to surpass the all-time single-day earnings for an Indian film in the UK, which is currently a record being held by 'Bollywood Baadshah' Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (2023). The advance ticket bookings for the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial were opened in the UK on September 7; six weeks before its theatrical release, thus making it the first time for an Indian film. Scheduled to open in cinemas worldwide on October 19, the expectations and the buzz for Leo have once again been shown by the advance ticket sales in the UK, and fans will now be looking forward to watching the trailer set to be released in the days ahead.
Leo marks the second time the 'Thalapathy' Vijay, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Anirudh Ravichander trio has collaborated after the staggering success of their Master (2021), and they will look to hit the bullseye once again. The film will see Trisha Krishnan playing the female lead, with Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt cast as the antagonist, while 'Action King' Arjun, Mysskin, Gautham Menon, Priya Anand, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sandy master, Mathew Thomas, among others will be seen in key roles.
