It's official - 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo is now leading the Day 1 UK box office and has created a massive new all-time record for an Indian film, with six days remaining for its release in theatres worldwide on October 19. The upcoming film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has rewritten the history books with this latest big development and shows the level of expectations among fans, who have already begun the celebrations by sharing their excitement on social media. On Friday, October 13, Leo's UK distributor shared the big announcement of the film now leading the league, while also going past the Day 1 records previously set by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and Pathaan released this year.
This latest announcement for 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj will come as joyous news to the film's team, who will be looking to witness a phenomenal opening in theatres across the world. It is to be noted that the UK distributor had also revealed that the film is strictly for ages 15+ and "intensely raw and violent" while adding that "2 minutes 40 seconds of graphic close-up shots of gory aftermaths will be trimmed". They further stated that these changes in Leo will not be noticed and won't cause any hindrance to the story as they make up less than 1% of the film's violence.
The sensational advance bookings in the UK for Leo are yet another big testimony to the hype surrounding the film and similar and if not a bigger response is expected in Tamil Nadu. The film is of particular interest among fans as it marks the second time the 'Thalapathy' Vijay, director Lokesh Kanagaraj, and composer Anirudh Ravichander trio have teamed up, and all sights are set on an explosive theatrical entertainer. Leo will see Vijay sharing the screen with an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Trisha as the female lead, followed by Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Mysskin, and Sandy master cast in negative roles, while Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand, Mathew Thomas, Iyal, among others, will also be making appearances.
