Al those in their late 20s or early 30s club would remember the golden period of television. A siimpler time during our childhood when several beloved shows were aired on channels like Pogo, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, etc. One of those beloved shows used to be Takeshi's Castle - a Japanese game show where hundreds of contestants threw themselves into a variety of mindless physical challenges and obstacle courses as they attempted to storm Takeshi's Castle to win the grand prize of 1 million yen. The show was widely popular for its innovative "games" and hilarious commentary.

Amazon Prime Video is set to reboot the hit Japanese reality series Takeshi’s Castle. The popular original series ran from 1986 to 1990 and was broadcasted in more than 150 countries across the globe, spawning many localized versions. The series was hosted by Japanese comedian and filmmaker Takeshi Kitano (aka Beat Takeshi) who played the character of an eccentric Count, giving contestants a chance to try and swarm the castle in order to get to him for a cash prize.

This announcement was revealed yesterday (March 30) at a showcase event in Tokyo as part of a slate of Japanese projects. The new series will premiere in 2023 and will be made available to watch in more than 240 markets globally.

The dubbed Indian version of the show was aired on Pogo with Javed Jaaferi keeping us hooked with his impeccable humorous commentary. Some of the popular tasks in the game show included Honeycomb Maze, Whack The Stack, Skipping Stones, Dragon Lake, Quake, and several others that were a joy to watch and dream to be a part of. We cannot for the new version of this classic show and hopefully it sticks to its roots and remains as good as it once was.
