Sivakarthikeyan, in his recent exclusive interview with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, opened up on what could have possibly went wrong in Seemaraja, one of his films that wasn't received well. The star actor revealed the realisations that he got after seeing the reception of the film. Talking on what could have went wrong in the film, Sivakarthikeyan said, "Our core team (SK - Ponram - Soori - D Imman) is coming together after delivering two blockbuster comedy films - Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan. That was the first high that we had while doing Seemaraja and we worked on the film with all our heart.
We liked whatever we did. The director wanted to do something different from what we've done earlier and so we made a film on a grand scale. However, somewhere the film did not land well with the audience. It took quite some time to realise what could have gone wrong. The first basic issue probably is because of our combination. We are coming together after two proper comedy films and the audiences came into the theatres expecting such a film. We did not position the film properly and we did not tell them that this is a straight mass-action entertainer. And there is a flashback in the film which I didn't find strong enough.
The hero character (Seemaraja) is knowing about his ancestor, but there is no strong reason for him to know. He understands his forefather's quality as a warrior, but it would have made more meaning if the hero was a coward or an innocent chap. But, Seemaraja starts with a fight. He is already a mass hero. Had he been someone who cannot fight people, him getting to know about the valiant character of his ancestor would have made more sense.
Also, I and Soori played these innocent characters in both of our earlier films, but that wasn't there in this one. Despite all these being said, we all gave our fullest efforts and did the film with so much liking. But, these are all learnings,". Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan is gearing up for the release of his next movie, Prince which is set for release on October 21.
