2021 will be a grand year for Silambarasan TR and his fans everywhere as the star is set to be seen in a number of high-profile ventures among which include Maanaadu, Gautham Menon's Nadhigalilae Neeradum Suriyan, the gangster flick Pathu Thala, an extended cameo in Hansika's Maha, including a project for the Tamil Nadu Movie Makers Sangam. Among them, the highly-anticipated Maanaadu is now entering its final leg of filming, according to director Venkat Prabhu. Addressing media persons on Saturday, Venkat Prabhu revealed that portions featuring large crowds are to be shot next, with production planned to be carried out for another 12-15 days.
Venkat Prabhu also went on to state that preparation works for filming the crowd portions are currently underway, while adding that the plans for Maanaadu's release will be made after the shooting is wrapped up. On a lighter note, Venkat Prabhu, when pressed for a word on 'Thala' Ajit's Valimai update, stated that he too is waiting for a word on it. Billed to be a mass masala political entertainer, an electrifying teaser for Maanaadu was released on Simbu's birthday last month, leaving many contemplating the film will be revolving around either the concept of time or time travel. Venkat Prabhu too took to social media soon after the release of the Maanaadu teaser to inform fans that the film has no connection to Hollywood director Christopher Nolan's Tenet after many speculated the two ventures shared similarities in terms of plot.
Being produced under Suresh Kamatchi’s V House Productions, Maanaadu is also the first time STR and Venkat Prabhu are collaborating for a full-length venture after the flamboyant actor made a cameo appearance in the 2010 hit, Goa. The upcoming action thriller has Simbu playing the role of a Muslim for the first time in his career, with his character in the film named to be Abdul Khaaliq. Maanaadu also has Yuvan Shankar Raja for the songs and background score as the composer has frequently worked with each of Silambarasan and Venkat Prabhu’s other ventures, with fans expecting him to deliver yet another chart-buster album.
Apart from STR, Maanaadu's multi-star cast features names like Kalyani Priyadarshan playing the female lead, followed by SJ Suryah, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Manoj Bharathiraja, Daniel Annie Pope, Y. Gee. Mahendra and veteran directors SA Chandrasekhar and Bharathiraja in pivotal roles. Another major highlight in Maanaadu is the stellar technical crew that includes talents namely Richard M. Nathan for the cinematography, Praveen K. L. for the editing, Rajeevan for the production design, action choreography by 'Stunt' Silva and costume designs by Vasuki Bhaskar.
