The biopic of Shakuntala Devi, the great Mathematician and Guinness Book of World Record holder, released recently on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. Vidya Balan played the role of Shakuntala Devi and the film has won the hearts and minds of the audience as it showcased Shakuntala Devi wit, charm and her outspoken nature which is being loved by all and the fact, that she would always think ahead of time, had raised many eyebrows and turned many heads back then.
Shakuntala Devi was written and directed by Anu Menon and produced by Sony Pictures Networks India and Vikram Malhotra under his banner Abundantia Entertainment. Shakuntala Devi also featured Sanya Malhotra, Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh. Songs in the film were composed by Sachin–Jigar and the background score was done by Karan Kulkarni. Lyrics for the songs were written by Vayu and Priya Saraiya. The cinematography is handled by Keiko Nakahara and the editing is done by Antara Lahiri. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the biopic was streamed worldwide on 31 July 2020 on Amazon Prime Video and the film opened to some positive response from critics.
The makers of the Vidya Balan starrer recently shared a deleted scene from the film. The exclusive deleted clip from Shakuntala Devi where Vidya Balan gets distracted by number plates and meets with an accident while driving during her pregnancy. Speaking about the film, Vidya had earlier told PTI earlier that there are moments of self-doubt in her life, but playing a character like mathematics genius acted like a source of inspiration. The actor said the biopic strengthened her belief that it is okay for women to claim ownership on their lives without being apologetic. “She owned her choices and stood her ground. Her story definitely inspired me and has shown me that it is actually okay for a woman to want it all in life.” - said Vidya Balan.
