Ace Tamil film director Selvaraghavan took part in a book launch ceremony in Chennai on Sunday, June 19, which also saw Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin gracing the occasion as the chief guest. After the completion of the proceedings at the event, the filmmaker who made his acting debut in 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Beast, interacted with media persons and spoke about the plans for his upcoming film projects, while revealing that he will first direct Pudhupettai 2 after which the work on Aayirathil Oruvan 2 will begin. Selvaraghavan had earlier in an event in 2020 officially revealed for the first time that Pudhupettai 2 is indeed confirmed, while the filmmaker and his brother-actor Dhanush announced Aayirathil Oruvan 2 on the occasion of New Year's Eve 2021, with plans for the film to hit screens in 2024.

Both Pudhupettai (2006) and Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) have garnered a massive cult status among Tamil cinema fans since their release, with chatter about the sequels constantly being made on social media. As of now, there is no cast or crew attached to Pudhupettai 2 or Aayirathil Oruvan 2 apart from Selvaraghavan informing in various interviews that he awaits both Dhanush and Karthi to be available for the films. It is to be noted that Aayirathil Oruvan 2 was announced by Selvaraghavan along with a concept art poster featuring Dhanush in 2021.

All sights are now set on when production on Pudhupettai 2 and Aayirathil Oruvan 2 will begin rolling, with fans waiting to hear about the cast and crew for both ventures. As of now, Selvaraghavan is busy with the post-production work for his upcoming film, Naane Varuven, which will see him sharing screen space with Dhanush for the first time, who is reportedly playing dual roles. It is to be noted that Selvaraghavan impressed fans with his power-packed performance in Saani Kaayidham alongside Keerthy Suresh, with speculations rife that he will be playing the antagonist in Naane Varuven.
