Timeless star Sarathkumar, a celebrated actor among 90s kids and families, is renowned for his roles as Sanmugam in Nattamai and as Sakthivel Gounder and Chinnarasu in Suryavamsam. He has lately garnered praise for his stunning performance as Periya Pazhuvettarayar in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan films. However, with the same excitement, Sarathkumar has now opened up on the plans for Suryavamsam 2 during an interaction with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus.
During the discussion about Sarathkumar’s new film Por Thozhil, Sarathkumar spoke about the sequel to Suryavamsam. He said, "We have planned to do Suryavamsam 2, and now we are discussing how to travel further with the story. Maybe that name (title) can be used... We may proceed with the same type of village subjects and connect them to the plot." He continued, "If you look at Nattamai, at the climax after Nattamai’s death, he takes the horse, wears the bracelet, and when he drinks water, the second person comes. You can also take it as Nattamai. It depends on how you narrate and create a story out of that."
In addition, Sarathkumar states, "Suryavamsam ends with a happy ending; the question is what will happen next. What if his son has changed into someone else, The story can develop from there. Relatives of the murdered villain may be introduced. But., we will have to think about a story." Suryavamsam was a massive blockbuster in 1997 and went on to be celebrated by family audiences. Written and directed by Vikraman, the film featured Sarathkumar in dual roles and it remains to be seen if the majority of the original star cast will be retained for the planned sequel.
