SS Rajamouli’s RRR released a few months back in theatres around the world and rocked the box office. It had a terrific run in theatres across various film industries in India and overseas. But, for the first time, a film is still making great buzz post-theatrical run. It may be out of theatres but SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus still continues to shatter records. RRR regional versions are streaming on Zee5 whereas Netflix has acquired the rights for only the Hindi language. And ever since the OTT platform started streaming the film, the buzz around it has been rapidly increasing among the non-Indian binge watchers who have gotten a liking towards it.
They are now sharing positive reviews on their respective social pages which is unlike anything we have ever seen as this has never happened before for any other Indian movie. Netflix themselves have officially announced that RRR is the number one non-English film watched for 18.36 million hours. This is grand news considering the fact that Top Gun has only been watched for 6.44 million hours in the same week.
The historical action drama is the most expensive film in Indian history and already one of the biggest box office hits. RRR follows the life of two Indian revolutionaries who are pitted against the imperial British Raj in 1920s India. One is the champion for a rural tribe trying to rescue a stolen daughter. While the other is the police officer tasked with catching him. The pair later form an unwitting friendship after teaming together in a daring rescue of a young boy.
The film stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles and also features Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in pivotal cameo appearances. The film was a roaring success at the box office and went on to earn over Rs.1200 crores globally and ended up as the fourth highest grossing Indian film of all time.
