Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan is having a dream run at the box office and its performance has taken one and all by big surprise. The film has fetched positive reviews from the critics and the general audience and most importantly, the film has attracted senior citizens in large numbers. People who haven't visited theatres for many years are seeing the film on the big screen, witnessing the epic unfold. With this being the scenario, the film is raking money at the box office and has been creating several records. Earlier today (October 6), the makers officially confirmed a new record created by PS-1, and the update has garnered wide attention on social media.
Ponniyin Selvan has become the fastest ever film to collect a gross of more than 100 crores in Tamil Nadu and this is indeed a huge achievement. Collecting a gross of more than 100 crores in Tamil Nadu in just 5 days of run is a massive feat, thereby registering a place in history. It is going to be a challenging task for upcoming biggies to defeat this record. Apart from this record, Ponniyin Selvan has also crossed the 300 crore mark from its worldwide box office collections and this is only the sixth Tamil film to do so. Enthiran, Kabali, 2.0, Bigil, and Vikram are the five films that have touched the 300 crore club and Ponniyin Selvan is the latest to join the list.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 is expected to have this fantastic momentum at the box office until the Diwali weekend and the shows are sure to go housefull until then. The second part of the film will be released in the summer of 2023 and an official word on the same is awaited.
