Born as Mani in Kakinada and having entered the world of Cinema, playing a minor role in the 1957 Bollywood movie Paying Guest, Geethanjali was given her screen name in her second Hindi movie Paras Mani, in 1963. In her career spanning many decades, Geethanjali has acted in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam movies with almost all the top actors of that industry. In a shocking news, it has come out that this veteran actress passed away in the early hours of today morning.
Reports state that Geethanjali suffered from a massive cardiac arrest and was immediately rushed to the Apollo Hospital, in Film Nagar, where she breathed her last. Geethanjali was married to popular Telugu actor Ramakrishna, who earlier passed away in 2001. Their son Adith Srinivas debuted as an actor in the film Bhuma. Geethanjali has acted in a number of hit movies and her claim to fame was through movies like Sitarama Kalyana, Illalu (both with NTR in the lead), Murali Krishna, Dr Chakravarthy, Sambarala Rambabu and many others.
Geethanjali was last seen in the 2013 Nagarjuna movie Bhai and had recently been expecting the release of the Tamannaah starrer That is Mahalakshmi, in which she has played a part. That is Mahalakshmi is the official Telugu remake of the super hit Bollywood movie Queen, which had Kangna Ranaut in the lead. Geethanjali has acted in over 500 movies and was also part of the Nandi Awards Committee. The last rites are to be reportedly performed today evening.
