In an untoward incident, popular South Indian actress Kavya Thapar was arrested in the wee hours on Thursday night by the Juhu police in Mumbai in an alleged case of drunk driving, manhandling, and assaulting a lady constable. According to reports, the incident had taken place at around 1 a.m. near the JW Marriott hotel, with the 26-year-old star said to have gotten involved in an altercation with the woman constable from the Nirbhaya squad in Juhu in Vile Parle (west). Thapar had attended a party and was en route to her residence in the eastern suburbs with a friend in her car.
Reports further state Thapar was under the influence of alcohol and had crashed her vehicle into a parked car. The Nirbhaya squad from Juhu police station had arrived at the place of the incident after the police control room had received information about the car crash. During the argument, the actress had allegedly caught the lady constable's collar and abused her. As a result of being manhandled, the female constable had fallen to the ground.
Thapar was soon after booked for rash driving, drunk driving, and criminal force on a public servant obstructing him/her from discharging duty and under various sections of the IPC and Motor Vehicles Act. She was later produced before the Andheri magistrate court after being arrested and then remanded to judicial custody. Thapar has been sent to the Byculla women’s jail and will remain until she is granted bail.
Kavya Thapar is best known for featuring in several music videos and television advertisements before she landed her first role in Telugu cinema. She made her acting debut in the 2018 Tollywood venture Ee Maaya Peremito, opposite Rahul Vijay, and was last seen in the 2021 film Ek Mini Katha alongside Santosh Shoban and Shraddha Das. Thapar also made her entry in Tamil cinema in Market Raja MBBS in 2019, which starred Bigg Boss fame Arav in the lead role and was directed by Saran, who is known for blockbusters like Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam, Gemini, Vasool Raja MBBS, Attagasam to name a notable few.
