Mere days after the release of the film Dhaakad which came out on 20 May 2022, the film faced a mighty big setback at the box office despite mixed reviews with hardly any place screening the abysmal film. But that was not enough to stop Kangana Ranaut to start working on her next project. Titled Emergency, the film is Kangana's second time putting on the director's cap after 2019's period drama film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The actor flew to Delhi for the film in order to visit and determine a location for its suitability for shooting pre-filming.
Announcing the project, Kangana said, “Pleased to wear director’s hat again, after working on Emergency for more than a year I finally figured no one can direct it better than me. Collaborating with fabulous writer Ritesh Shah, even if it means sacrificing on various acting assignments I am determined to do it, my excitement is high. This is going to be a tremendous journey, my leap to another league #Emergency #Indira".
Emergency has been written by Ritesh Shah, who wrote Dhaakad as well. Kangana Ranaut had earlier mentioned that Emergency will be a political drama and not a biopic. In a statement she made last year, Kangana revealed, "It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand the socio-political landscape of current India."
Besides this, on the work front, Kangana has also got couple other films in her kitty. She will be taking on the role of an Air Force Pilot in Tejas and Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda which is the sequel to 2019's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Sita: The Incarnation. She has also wrapped up shooting of her production, Tiku Weds Sheru, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur.
