Malayalam director Alphonse Puthren tasted blockbuster success with his Premam in 2015, with the coming of age romantic drama film starring Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran, going on to become a colossal hit in Tamil Nadu, while also getting remade in Telugu as well. Alphonse, who earlier also directed the Malayalam-Tamil bilingual Neram, is at present working on his next titled Paattu, which has Fahadh Faasil paired with Nayanthara, with the director also set to make his debut as a music director with his third directorial. An aficionado and an admirer of Tamil films and actors, Alphonse had recently shared his adulation for the classic Kamal Haasan blockbuster, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, which had the four-time multi-talented National Award-winning actor appearing in four different roles under Singeetam Srinivasa Rao's direction.
Kamal Haasan, who had recently shared unknown facts for his 2008 mammoth hit, Dasavatharam, which completed 13 years last week, was queried by Alphonse Puthren to share his insights on how he made Michael Madana Kama Rajan in 1990, at a time when extensive computer graphics were not available and added that learning about it would be equivalent to a degree course in filmmaking. He had added that making a film like Dasavatharam in which 'Ulaganayagan' was seen in 10 different roles is like a Ph.D. in filmmaking. Responding to Alphonse's enthusiasm, Kamal on Friday said that he will soon do a master class and stated that talking about Michael Madana Kama Rajan after years is teaching him new lessons as well. Kamal wrote, "Thank you Alphonse Puthren. Will do soon. I dont know how much of a learning it will be for you. For me it was, as I mentioned, a master class. Talking about it after years, teaches me new lessons." Check out their interaction below:
