Agriculture is one of the cornerstones of civilization and yet it is a profession that the civilized people look down on and want to do nothing with. This subject has been brutally butchered in Tamil cinema with almost every hero trying to find a way to voice the plights of the farmers and save them from the evil corporates. But this foray into the paddy field is much more of a documentary than anything else.
Kadaisi Vivasayi revolves around the octogenarian Mayandi, the last farmer standing in a village, who is sought to grow grains for the village deity’s special offering. Soon after he starts farming, he buries three dead peacocks on his farm one day which leads to his arrest and what follows after is the rest of the story. The film stands out, breaking the stereotypical representation of a film dealing with farmers.
M. Manikandan's Kadaisi Vivasayi starred the late real life farmer Nallandi along with cameo appearances from Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu. This film is written and directed by M. Manikandan and is produced by Manikandan himself. The film was released on 11 February 2022 and received critical acclaim for its making, performances and realistic aspects.
Due to such a response and assuming it is something that would resonate with people, Sony Liv has adopted the film in order to release it on their OTT streaming platform. The company took this information onto their social media in order to announce this news. They posted a tweet on Twitter with a video attached to it that read, "The last active farmer in a remote village tries to hold out against a property developer. Watch Vijay Sethupathi, Yogi Babu, Nalladi Starrer Kadaisi Vivasaayi Streaming on 11th March on SonyLIV #KadaisiVivasayiOnSonyLIV"
