Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp, known the world over for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the blockbuster Pirates of The Caribbean franchise, has confirmed that he will not return to play the iconic role once again. During his Virginia court testimony in the Depp vs Heard trial proceedings against his ex-wife Amber Heard last week, the three-time Academy Award-nominated actor stated that he would not reprise the role even if Disney were to offer him a massive deal.
With another film installment currently in development in the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise with Margot Robbie in the lead role, Johnny Depp stated during the trial that it was an op-ed written by Amber Heard in 2018 about being a victim of domestic abuse that hit his career hard. However, the Aquaman actress' attorney had argued that Depp was set to be replaced as Jack Sparrow prior to the publishing of the op-ed. Responding to the same, Depp said, "Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe." The actor was also queried about whether it was true that he did not wish to make a return to the POTC franchise and responded by saying, "that is true." Heard's attorney, Ben Rottenborn during his court exchange with the actor asked, "The fact is, Mr Depp if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film? Correct?", with Depp responding, "That is true." Johnny Depp, with this latest open declaration, has now made it clear that he will not be coming back one last time to play Jack Sparrow in a new chapter of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
