Leading Tamil actor Jayam Ravi's latest film, Ponniyin Selvan: 2, has taken a stunning opening in theatres grossing more than 100 crores at the worldwide box office in the first two days of its release and is well on its way to become one of Tamil cinema's biggest blockbusters. Portraying Arunmozhi Varman in the epic historical action adventure film directed by Mani Ratnam and featuring music composed by A. R. Rahman, the actor recently took part in a special fans festival event organized by Galatta Media in the presence of eager fans, which also saw his family members, including his wife Aarti Ravi grace the gala occasion.
Speaking at the Jayam Ravi fans festival, the actor was asked about how he feels being a father, while also recalling the experiences he had during Aarti's delivery and his sons births. The PS: 2 actor said, "Actually, they performed a caesarean delivery on her and took me inside the room where her surgery was going on. When they gave her the mask, I saw her getting unconscious and I began to faint when I witnessed that. When I turned around, I saw them putting markings on her (for her delivery)." Aarti chimed in saying, "When I turned around, he wasn't there. When I became unconscious, he fell down. Later, he was sitting on the side as though he was undergoing a surgery. My mother-in-law slapped him and kept asking what was going on with him." Jayam Ravi then added, "She gave me a tight slap because I was unconscious. In the midst of all this, my second son Ayaan was born. When I heard his voice, I went (and saw him) and it was a divine connection."
Jayam Ravi also spoke about his first son's birth when he was in Paris filming and revealed how his father editor Mohan was keeping him informed about the developments in the hospital. He said, "To tell you the truth, when my first son Aarav was born, my father was giving a commentary about what was happening. He announced excitedly over the phone that the child is born. I didn't ask whether the child was a boy or a girl. All I asked was how was Aarti doing?" The actor then jokingly added, "I get to say this only when there's an interview."
