The stage is set for the grand release of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2, which is scheduled to open in cinemas worldwide on April 28. Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies and featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, promotions have been in full swing over the past few days as the cast of the upcoming epic historical action adventure film have been touring various places across the country, including the nation's capital Delhi on Monday, April 18. In that light, cast members Jayam Ravi and Trisha had lost their Twitter verification earlier this week when they changed their usernames to their PS: 2 character names, with the duo revealing during the press tour that they have been trying to redeem it again.
Speaking to media persons, Jayam Ravi and Trisha along with the other Ponniyin Selvan: 2 cast members 'Chiyaan' Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, explained how they changed their usernames on Twitter to their character names in the film and ended up losing their blue ticks. Trisha said, "We were all supposed to change our names. Like over-enthusiastic people, Ravi and I did it first and lost the blue tick. I don’t know the reason behind it but the team is working on reviving it back. But, I think the Twitter rules have changed...". Vikram then chimed in and told the reporters, "If you guys can do something to help them, we'll be very grateful." On a hilarious note, Jayam Ravi added, "Hum abhi hamare character verification mein hain. Baad mein name verification pe aenge (We're right now in our character verification. Later, we'll come for the name verification)." Trisha further stated, "But, they are refusing to let us purchase it because we changed our names. We tried doing that as well this morning. It says suspicious activity because we changed our names."
Ponniyin Selvan: 2 has a majority of the star cast reprising the roles starting with 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Kundavai, Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poonguzhali, Sobhita Dhulipala as Vaanathi and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles as Nandini and Mandakini. The sequel to the 2022 box office blockbuster, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, is coming out under tremendous buzz and huge expectations after the original film released last year turned out to be a massive commercial success minting over 500 crores at the global box office, while also garnering immense appreciation from fans and critics.
