Known for starring together on the British soap opera Hollyoaks, the duo announced the joyous news on social media on the festive occasion of Christmas. Sharing a photo of their son Reggie gazing at a baby scan, Nadine, who plays the role of Cleo McQueen on the show, wrote in the caption: "This better not be my only gift mum.❤️" Douglas-Speed, who has been portraying the character Dexter on Hollyoaks since 2016, also posted a video and a couple of adorable photos of their little son with the baby scan. He wrote, "Well. Here we go again…. I ‘think Reggie is warming to the idea of having a little brother or sister 🤣🤣❤️❤️" In the video, we see Reggie tossing the scan picture, with Nadine commenting: "Reggie, that’s not very nice, is it?"

Earlier this summer, Nadine Mulkerrin showered praises on Rory Douglas-Speed for giving her big support with their son during the lockdown last year. At the time, she said, "Reggie was six months old when we got the first lockdown from Boris [Johnson]. In some ways, I kind of miss that feeling of being in our little bubble, and, obviously, Rory was off work, which was a massive help." Nadine added, "I was thinking, God, if he was filming seven till seven, I don't know how I would have coped! We were a little team, we just really got to soak in those newborn moments and enjoy Reggie together." Nadine and Douglas-Speed got engaged in December 2018. They announced their first pregnancy in June 2019, with their son Reggie born on 15 October 2019.
